Best Racing Games for PS5 Ranked (April 2025)

If you’re a motorsport fan, racing games are probably the closest you’ll ever get to sitting in the driver’s seat and experiencing the thrill of iconic circuits like Spa-Francorchamps. But with so many options, finding the right game that accurately depicts the experience of driving a car can be tricky. If you’re stuck trying to decide, don’t worry. We tested all the popular racing games on PS5, and here are the five best ones you should try.

5. EA Sports WRC

For all the rally fans out there, EA Sports WRC might just be the best rally racing game on the PS5. It features over 600 kilometers of stages across 18 official WRC locations, with surfaces including asphalt, gravel, and snow.

Players can drive 10 current WRC, WRC2, and Junior WRC vehicles, along with 68 iconic rally cars from the sport’s 60-year history.

The combination of authentic cars and tracks, solid visuals, and the Dynamic Handling System makes players feel like they’re driving a real rally car in challenging conditions. Plus, the game receives regular updates that add new content and keep the experience fresh.

4. Assetto Corsa Competizione

If you felt like Gran Turismo wasn’t realistic enough, Assetto Corsa Competizione is the game for you. It’s the most hardcore sim racer available on PS5, focusing exclusively on GT3, GT4, and GT2 class cars. It delivers a true-to-life experience with officially licensed teams, drivers, and circuits from the 2018 to 2023 seasons.

The graphics are solid, featuring dynamic weather and day-night cycles in sprint and endurance race formats, such as the 24 Hours of Spa.

However, what sets the game apart from others is the handling, which is super detailed and accurately simulates tire grip, aerodynamics, engine performance, suspension behavior, and electronic systems. While controller support is available, I highly recommend using a steering wheel setup for the full experience—especially if you’re racing competitively.

3. Forza Horizon 5

After being an Xbox exclusive for years, Forza Horizon 5 has finally made its way to the PS5, and it is awesome. Set in a virtualized version of Mexico, the game offers the franchise’s most detailed map yet, with eleven unique biomes, including jungles, beaches, deserts, and even an active caldera volcano. It all looks stunning in native 4K on the PS5.

Forza Horizon 5 does an excellent job of blending realistic car models and physics with arcade-style mechanics, offering a fun and flexible driving experience unlike anything else. There’s a ton to do—from exploring the open world to completing challenges with friends.

2. F1 24

No racing game list is complete without the mention of the F1 game, and this isn’t any different either. Despite facing its fair share of criticism, Codemasters’ F1 24 remains an excellent title for fans looking to step into the shoes of their favorite F1 drivers. It’s both approachable for newcomers and can also act as a great sim racer for seasoned professionals.

The latest installment introduces the all-new EA SPORTS Dynamic Handling system, developed in collaboration with reigning F1 champion Max Verstappen. It aims to deliver the most realistic and immersive driving feel in the franchise to date. While some players didn’t enjoy this handling experience, I definitely did, and if Max says it’s more accurate, then it definitely must be.

Plus, the game looks spectacular on the PS5 and the Pro, delivering some truly breathtaking visuals, especially when driving in the rain. However, it’s worth noting that F1 24 drops the Breaking Point story mode, which was quite popular among F1 23 players. In its place is a revamped Career Mode that allows you to race as a current F1 driver, a legendary icon, or a fully customized character.

1. Gran Turismo 7

At number one, we have the PS5’s most iconic racing game, Gran Turismo 7. It’s the child of Kazunori Yamauchi, a motoring enthusiast who dedicated his life to accurately representing the real world on the digital screen, even if it meant obsessing over every single detail. And the results speak for themselves.

The 8th iteration in the long-running series is perhaps the most realistic sim racer available, featuring 400 recreated cars from over 60 manufacturers, alongside 37 different locations and 110 unique track layouts. The single-player mode also returns after being absent for the last two games. That said, it’s a bit lacking, and I would have liked to see more of a storyline for people who want to sit back and play.

Nevertheless, the gameplay experience is next level, featuring dynamic time and weather effects, advanced driving physics, and a variety of tuning and customization options. Players can customize the performance and appearance of their vehicle to add a personal touch.

Being a PS5 exclusive, Gran Turismo 7 makes full use of the system’s features: 4K resolution, ray tracing, haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and 3D spatial audio — all of which come together to create the most realistic and immersive racing experience on console.
